…performances by two of the competitors in the improvisation contest, recorded at the De Doelen Concert Hall, Rotterdam.

This program contains performances by two of the competitors in the improvisation contest, recorded at the De Doelen Concert Hall, Rotterdam. Each will be heard in an improvisation upon a given theme, a modernist graphic (below) provided by avant-garde composer Enrique Raxach, as well as the following works:

ANDRE JOLIVET: Mandala (1969)  --Jos van der Kooy (The Netherlands)

MAURICE DURUFLÉ: Prelude & Fugue on the name ALAIN  --Ton van Eck (The Netherlands)

This and the following two programs include comments on the Haarlem Festival experience and reactions to the improvisations from two Americans who have participated in the Haarlem goings-on in past seasons.
