Music for the Season of Christmas #85103

…the first of four programs recorded at the De Doolen Concert Hall in Rotterdam (4-manual, mechanical action organ by Flentrop) during the Festival's 29th season.

Three noted European organists, who judged the Improvisation Competition, will themselves be heard in improvised works, as well as the following repertoire:

J.S. BACH: Prelude and Fugue in e minor, S. 548, "Wedge"  -Hans Gebhard (West Germany)

CÉSAR FRANCK: Choral No. 2 in b minor  -Anders Bondeman (Sweden)

CÉSAR FRANCK: Piece heroique  -Andre Isoir (France)

(This program also includes background concerning the Haarlem Festival, which usually takes place in the historic St. Bavo Church in Haarlem, The Netherlands, a town half-an-hour west of Amsterdam. Some recordings of the famous organ of the St. Bavo Church will be heard.)
